Study Timer

Study Timer

Stay focused with a Pomodoro timer. Customize work and break intervals, track daily sessions, and build a consistent study streak.

What is Study Timer?

Study Timer is an online Pomodoro timer designed to help you stay focused and productive. Based on the popular Pomodoro Technique, it breaks your work into focused intervals separated by short breaks, helping you maintain concentration and avoid burnout.

The Pomodoro Technique

The technique is simple but effective:

1

Focus

Work for a set period (typically 25 minutes)

2

Short Break

Take a quick rest (5 minutes)

3

Long Break

After several sessions, rest longer (15 minutes)

4

Repeat

Continue the cycle throughout your session

Why it works: This structured approach helps you work with time rather than against it. Regular breaks keep your mind fresh, while the ticking timer creates a sense of urgency that boosts concentration.

Your Data Stays Private

How to Use Study Timer

1

Set Your Task

Type what you're working on in the task input field at the top. This labels your focus sessions so you can review what you worked on later in the session history.

2

Choose a Mode

Select one of three modes using the tabs:

  • Focus — Your main work interval (default: 25 minutes)
  • Short Break — A quick rest between focus sessions (default: 5 minutes)
  • Long Break — A longer rest after completing several focus sessions (default: 15 minutes)
3

Start the Timer

Click the Start button to begin the countdown. The circular progress ring shows how much time remains. You can pause at any time, reset the current session, or skip to the next mode.

4

Complete Your Cycle

When a focus session ends, the timer automatically transitions to a break. The pomodoro dots below the timer show your progress in the current cycle. After completing the set number of focus sessions (default: 4), you earn a long break.

5

Track Your Progress

The stats bar below the timer shows today's pomodoros, total focus minutes, and your current day streak. Open the Statistics panel for a weekly chart, streak records, and a list of today's sessions.

6

Customize Your Experience

Open the Settings panel to adjust durations, choose a preset, enable auto-start, select an alarm sound, or pick an ambient background theme for a more immersive focus environment.

Features

Pomodoro Timer with Progress Ring

A clean circular timer displays the countdown with a smooth progress ring that changes color based on the current mode: indigo for focus, green for short break, and blue for long break.

Customizable Durations

Adjust focus, short break, and long break durations to match your workflow. Choose from three built-in presets — Classic (25/5/15), Extended (50/10/30), or Short (15/3/10) — or set custom values.

Pomodoro Cycle Tracking

Visual dots below the timer show your progress through the current pomodoro cycle. After completing a set number of focus sessions, you automatically earn a longer break. Configure the cycle length from 2 to 10 sessions.

Daily Statistics

Track your productivity with a stats bar showing today's completed pomodoros, total focus minutes, and your current day streak. The statistics panel includes a weekly bar chart, streak records, and a detailed session history.

Alarm Sounds

Choose from three notification sounds — Bell, Chime, or Digital — to alert you when a session ends. Preview each sound before selecting, or turn sounds off entirely.

Browser Notifications

Enable desktop notifications to be alerted when a focus session or break ends, even if the browser tab is in the background. This ensures you never miss a transition.

Ambient Backgrounds

Set the mood for deep focus with 8 carefully designed dark gradient backgrounds, including Deep Ocean, Northern Lights, Midnight Forest, and more. You can also upload a custom image from your device.

Auto-Start Options

Enable auto-start for breaks, focus sessions, or both to create a seamless workflow. When enabled, the next session begins automatically when the current one ends.

Dark Mode

The interface fully supports dark mode, automatically adapting to your system or site theme preference for comfortable use in any lighting condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is my data stored?

All your settings, session history, and statistics are stored in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to any server. Your data is private and available instantly, but it is tied to the browser you use.

Will I lose my data if I clear my browser?

Yes. Since data is stored in local storage, clearing your browser data will remove your settings and history. The app retains up to 30 days of daily statistics automatically.

Important: Be careful when clearing browser data or using incognito mode, as this will erase all your timer history and settings.

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method that uses timed intervals of focused work (typically 25 minutes) followed by short breaks. After completing several work intervals, you take a longer break. This cycle helps maintain concentration and prevents mental fatigue.

The Pomodoro Technique was developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The method is named after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer he used as a university student.

— Francesco Cirillo, Creator of the Pomodoro Technique

Can I change the timer durations?

Yes. Open the Settings panel and adjust the Focus, Short Break, and Long Break durations. You can also choose from three presets:

  • Classic (25/5/15) — Traditional Pomodoro timing
  • Extended (50/10/30) — For deep work sessions
  • Short (15/3/10) — Quick productivity bursts

Changes apply when the timer is not running.

How does the day streak work?

The streak counts consecutive days where you complete at least your daily target of pomodoros (default: 8). Today doesn't count against your streak if you haven't reached the target yet — it only breaks if a previous day was missed.

Streak tip: Consistency is key! Even completing just one pomodoro per day can help maintain your streak and build a lasting productivity habit.

What are the background options?

You can choose from 8 ambient dark gradient backgrounds designed to create a focused atmosphere:

  • Deep Ocean
  • Northern Lights
  • Midnight Forest
  • Warm Sunset
  • Cosmic Purple
  • Dark Ember
  • Slate Minimal
  • Starry Night

You can also upload a custom image from your device (up to 2MB).

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes. The interface is fully responsive and works on mobile devices. The timer, controls, and settings all adapt to smaller screens.

Mobile-friendly: Access Study Timer from any device — desktop, tablet, or smartphone — and enjoy the same seamless experience.

Does the timer work in the background?

The timer continues running when the browser tab is in the background. Enable browser notifications to be alerted when a session ends, even if you're in another tab or application.
