Frequently Asked Questions
How is the weighted average calculated?
The weighted average multiplies each grade by its weight, sums them up, and divides by the total weight.
(85 × 20 + 92 × 50) / (20 + 50) = 89.71What GPA scale does this use?
This calculator uses the standard US 4.0 GPA scale:
- A/A+ = 4.0
- A- = 3.7
- B+ = 3.3
- B = 3.0
- B- = 2.7
- C+ = 2.3
- C = 2.0
- C- = 1.7
- D+ = 1.3
- D = 1.0
- D- = 0.7
- F = 0.0
Do my weights need to add up to 100%?
Not necessarily. The calculator divides by the total weight entered, so it works with any total. However, the weight indicator turns green at 100% to help you verify your weights match your syllabus.
How does the final grade calculator work?
It uses the formula:
Needed Score = (Desired Grade - Current Grade × (1 - Final Weight)) / Final Weight
(90 - 85 × 0.6) / 0.4 = 97.5%What does cumulative GPA mean?
Cumulative GPA combines your current semester GPA with your prior GPA. Enter your existing GPA and total credit hours earned, and the calculator merges them with your current semester courses to show your overall GPA across all semesters.
