Household Budget Tracker for the Whole Family
This household budget tracker helps you see exactly where your home's money goes each month. Record expenses across twelve categories, assign them to family members, and set budget limits so you always know how much is left to spend.
Everything updates as you type. A color-coded ring shows how much of your monthly budget you have used, category bars flag overspending, and a 12-month trend chart reveals your spending patterns over the year. When you need a record, export the month as a CSV spreadsheet in one click.
It is built for families who want to track spending across everyone, couples sharing household costs, and individuals who simply want a clear, visual way to stay on budget.
How to Use the Home Budget Tracker
Set your monthly budget
On the Overview card, click Budget to open the budget form. Enter your total monthly budget and, if you like, add limits for individual categories such as Housing, Groceries, or Utilities, then click Save.
Add family members
Open the Members tab and click Add Member. Type each person's name and pick a color. Members then appear as options on the expense form so you can track who spent what.
Record expenses
In the Expenses tab, or with the quick-add button on Overview, click Add Expense. Choose a category, enter the amount, pick a member and date, and add an optional note. Amounts auto-format with thousand separators as you type.
Monitor your progress
The Overview tab shows your month at a glance: the budget-usage ring, a category breakdown with progress bars, each member's share, and a 12-month spending trend with year total and monthly average.
Filter and export
Use the filter dropdowns in the Expenses tab to narrow the list by category or member. When you need a report, click Export CSV to download the current month's data as a spreadsheet file.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I track my household budget?
Set a monthly budget on the Overview card, then add expenses as you spend. Pick a category, enter the amount, and optionally tag a family member. The ring chart and category bars show how much of your budget is left in real time.
What categories should a household budget have?
This tracker uses twelve common ones: Housing, Utilities, Groceries, Transport, Insurance, Healthcare, Education, Entertainment, Dining Out, Shopping, Savings, and Other. Fixed costs like Housing, Utilities, and Insurance tend to stay steady each month, while Groceries, Dining Out, and Shopping are where you have the most room to adjust.
Can I track spending for the whole family?
Yes. Add each person in the Members tab and assign expenses to them. The Overview then shows how much each member has spent and their percentage of the household total, with anything untagged grouped as Unassigned.
Can I track income as well as expenses?
The tool is built for expense tracking. To work with income, set your monthly budget to match your expected income and watch how much of it you spend through the ring chart and remaining-balance figure.
Can I set different budgets for different months?
The budget you set is used as the default for every month, so you only need to set it once. You can update the total or category limits at any time, and the change applies across all months.
What happens if I delete a family member?
Deleting a member removes them from the list and the expense form, but their existing expenses are kept. Those entries simply show as Unassigned in the Overview.
What format is the CSV export?
The export covers the current month with Date, Category, Amount, Member, and Note columns. It uses UTF-8 encoding to support international characters and opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, and other spreadsheet apps.
Where is my data stored, and is it free?
The tracker is free to use. Your budget data is saved in your browser's local storage, so nothing is uploaded by default. If you sign in, it also syncs to your account so you can reach it from other devices.
