How do I calculate the cost to run an appliance?

Multiply the appliance's wattage by the hours you use it each day and by the quantity, then divide by 1,000 to get daily kWh. Multiply that by your electricity rate for the daily cost — the calculator does this for you and also shows the monthly and yearly totals.

How do I convert watts to kWh?

Kilowatt-hours measure energy over time: watts multiplied by hours of use, divided by 1,000. For example, a 1,500 W air conditioner running 8 hours uses 1,500 × 8 ÷ 1,000 = 12 kWh per day.

Where do I find my electricity rate?

Your rate is printed on your utility bill, usually as a price per kWh. In the US the average residential rate is around $0.12–$0.16 per kWh; in Europe it often falls between €0.20 and €0.35 per kWh. Check your most recent bill for the exact figure.

What does the wattage number mean?

Wattage (W) is how much power an appliance draws while it runs. You will usually find it on a label on the appliance, in the manual, or on the manufacturer's website. Higher wattage means more electricity used per hour.

How accurate are the estimates?

They are a solid approximation based on steady usage. Real bills can differ because utilities use tiered pricing, seasonal rates, demand charges, and taxes. The figures are most useful for comparing appliances against each other. Monthly totals use 30 days and yearly totals use 365 days for consistency.

Can I add the same appliance more than once?

Yes. Use the Qty field for several identical units, or add separate entries with different hours to model varied usage — for example, an air conditioner run 12 hours in summer and 4 hours in spring.

Is my data saved and is it private?

Your appliance list, electricity rate, and currency are stored in your browser's local storage, so they persist across sessions on the same device and browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and clearing your browser data resets the calculator.
