Weight Converter

Weight Converter

Convert between weight and mass units instantly. Supports metric (kg, g), imperial (lb, oz), troy weights for precious metals, and regional units like tola.

Weight Converter for Metric, Imperial & Troy Units

This weight converter changes any value between mass and weight units instantly, right in your browser. Pick a unit, type a number, and see the result alongside every other supported unit at the same time.

It covers 18 units across four systems — Metric (t, kg, g, mg, µg), Imperial (lb, oz, dr, st, hundredweight, short and long ton), Troy for precious metals (troy ounce, pennyweight, carat, grain), and the South Asian Tola for gold. That makes it useful for cooks converting recipes, fitness tracking, luggage limits, jewelers and gold traders, shipping, and students learning measurement systems.

Private by design: every conversion runs locally on your device. No values are uploaded to a server, and your unit preferences are saved only in your own browser.

How to Use the Weight Converter

1

Enter a value

Type the number you want to convert. The field accepts whole numbers, decimals (use a comma or a period), and large numbers, which display with space thousand separators for readability. Leave it blank and the converter shows results for a value of 1.

2

Choose your units

Open the unit dropdown and pick a source unit. Type in the search box to filter by symbol or name (for example, "pound" finds lb), or press Esc to close the list. Use the Swap units button to flip the from and to sides in one click.

3

Read every result

Below the converter, a results list shows the equivalent in all enabled units, grouped by Metric, Imperial, Troy, and Regional. The source unit is highlighted so you can scan the rest at a glance.

4

Copy what you need

Click the copy icon on any row to grab a single value, or use Copy All Results to copy the whole list at once. A toast confirms each copy.

Open Customize Units to show or hide individual units, change Decimals (2, 4, 6, 8, or Auto), and your choices are remembered for next time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert kg to lbs?

Select Kilogram as your source unit, type the value, and read the Pound (lb) row in the results. The formula is straightforward: multiply kilograms by 2.20462 to get pounds. So 5 kg is about 11.02 lb.

How many pounds is 1 kilogram?

One kilogram equals roughly 2.205 pounds (2.20462 lb to be precise). Going the other way, one pound is about 0.4536 kg, or 454 grams.

How do I convert ounces to grams?

Pick Ounce as the source unit and read the Gram (g) row. One avoirdupois ounce equals about 28.35 grams. Note that a troy ounce, used for precious metals, is different at about 31.10 grams.

What is the difference between weight and mass?

Technically, mass measures the amount of matter in an object (in kilograms) while weight is the force of gravity on that mass (in newtons). In everyday use the terms are interchangeable, and for practical purposes on Earth this converter treats them as equivalent.

Why are there two hundredweights and two tons (US and UK)?

The US (short) hundredweight is 100 pounds, while the UK (long) hundredweight is 112 pounds. The same split affects tons: a US short ton is 2,000 pounds and a UK long ton is 2,240 pounds. Both variants are included so you can pick the right one.

What is a troy ounce, and what is a tola?

A troy ounce is used for precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum, and equals about 31.10 grams — heavier than a regular ounce. A tola is a traditional South Asian unit for gold, equal to about 11.66 grams. Both are supported in the Troy and Regional groups.

Can I use a comma instead of a period for decimals?

Yes. The converter accepts both, so typing "2.5" or "2,5" is read the same way. Large numbers also display with space thousand separators, such as "1 000 000", which does not affect the calculation.

How accurate are the conversions?

The converter uses internationally recognized conversion factors, so results are accurate for all practical purposes. You can set the precision to 2, 4, 6, or 8 decimal places, or Auto, depending on how exact you need the result.

Why isn't a specific unit showing in my results?

It may be turned off in the Customize Units panel — open it and re-enable the unit. Also, your chosen source unit is intentionally left out of the converted results, since it would only repeat the value you entered.

Is my data private?

Yes. All calculations happen directly in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and your unit and precision preferences are stored only on your own device.
