While there are 24 main hourly offsets, the IANA database lists hundreds of distinct time zones once you count regional differences, half-hour and quarter-hour offsets, and separate Daylight Saving Time rules. This page lists them all, with UTC offsets ranging from UTC-12 to UTC+14.

It is a short code, usually three or four letters, that names a time zone — for example PST (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-8), EST (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-5), GMT (Greenwich Mean Time, UTC+0), ICT (Indochina Time, UTC+7), or JST (Japan Standard Time, UTC+9). Some abbreviations are ambiguous: CST can mean Central, China, or Cuba Standard Time, so check the full name or IANA identifier when precision matters.

The UTC offset tells you how many hours a time zone is ahead of or behind Coordinated Universal Time. UTC+7 is seven hours ahead, UTC-5 is five hours behind, and UTC+0 matches UTC (London in winter). Some places use half- or quarter-hour offsets such as UTC+5:30 (India) or UTC+5:45 (Nepal).

In everyday use they refer to the same time, UTC+0. GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is an older time-zone name still used in some regions, while UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the modern, precise atomic-clock standard from which every offset in this list is measured.

An IANA identifier is a unique name in the format Region/City, such as Asia/Ho_Chi_Minh or America/New_York. Unlike abbreviations, each identifier refers to exactly one zone and includes its historical rules, which makes it the reliable choice for programming and configuration. DST is the practice of moving clocks forward by an hour in warmer months to extend evening daylight. Much of North America, Europe, and parts of Australia observe it, while most of Asia, Africa, and South America do not. When DST is active a zone's offset shifts temporarily — for example PST (UTC-8) becomes PDT (UTC-7). The DST column shows each zone's current status.

The database uses English city names from the IANA standard. Try the English spelling (Ho Chi Minh rather than Hồ Chí Minh), search without spaces (hochiminh), filter by country, or look up the expected UTC offset instead.
