Shopify Fee Calculator

Shopify Fee Calculator

Calculate Shopify payment processing fees, transaction fees, and net profit for Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus plans.

Shopify Fee Calculator

The Shopify Fee Calculator shows your true cost and profit per order on your own Shopify store. Unlike marketplaces, Shopify charges no referral or listing fees — your main cost is payment processing. Enter your price, cost, and shipping, choose your plan, and instantly see net profit, margin, ROI, and a clear fee breakdown.

Pick from 8 plan options — Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus, each with or without a third-party gateway. The correct payment processing rate fills in automatically, and every value is editable in Fee Settings.

Store Owners

See the real cost of each order so you can price products to stay profitable after processing fees.

Plan Shoppers

Compare plans to find when the lower processing rate of a higher tier outweighs its monthly cost.

Dropshippers

Model thin margins precisely, including the extra fee if you use a third-party payment gateway.

How to Calculate Shopify Fees

1

Enter Price & Costs

Type your selling price, your cost of goods, and any shipping cost. These set the base for your per-order profit calculation.

2

Choose Your Plan

Select a plan and gateway combination. Each one sets the correct Shopify Payments rate — 2.9% (Basic) down to 2.15% (Plus) — and the third-party transaction fee where it applies.

3

Review Fee Settings

Open Fee Settings to confirm the $0.30 fixed processing fee. Add any per-order app costs in the App / Other Fees field — for example, paid apps or transaction-based tools.

4

Read the Results

Net profit, margin, and ROI update live. The revenue bar and fee breakdown show how each dollar splits between cost, fees, shipping, and profit.

No commission, ever. Shopify never takes a cut of your sales. As long as you use Shopify Payments, payment processing is your only per-order fee.

How Shopify's Fees Work

Payment Processing by Plan

Shopify's main per-order cost is the credit card processing fee, which drops as you move up to higher plans. The calculator pre-loads the correct rate for each plan:

PlanProcessing Rate3rd-Party Gateway Fee
Basic2.9% + $0.30+2%
Grow2.7% + $0.30+1%
Advanced2.5% + $0.30+0.6%
Plus2.15% + $0.30+0.2%
Third-party gateways cost extra. If you process payments through a gateway other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a transaction fee on top of whatever your gateway charges — from 2% on Basic down to 0.2% on Plus.

Plans & the Break-Even Point

Lower Rates Higher Up

Higher plans cost more per month but charge lower processing rates. At enough volume, the rate savings outweigh the subscription difference.

Compare Per-Order Cost

Switch plans in the calculator to compare the per-order fee at your price point and find your break-even sales volume.

Instant Profit Analysis

Net Profit

Selling price minus cost, shipping, and processing fees — your real take-home per order.

Margin & ROI

Profit margin as a share of revenue, plus return on investment against your cost.

Visual Breakdown

A revenue bar splits each order into cost, fees, shipping, and profit, line by line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Shopify's payment processing fees?

With Shopify Payments, online card rates are 2.9% + $0.30 on Basic, 2.7% + $0.30 on Grow, 2.5% + $0.30 on Advanced, and 2.15% + $0.30 on Plus. The calculator applies the correct rate when you pick a plan, and you can adjust it in Fee Settings.

Does Shopify charge a commission or listing fee?

No. Unlike Amazon, eBay, or Etsy, Shopify takes no referral fee, listing fee, or commission on your sales. Your costs are the monthly subscription and payment processing, which makes Shopify very cost-effective for high-volume sellers.

What is the third-party gateway fee?

If you use a payment gateway other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a transaction fee on top of your gateway's own charges — 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, and 0.2% on Plus. Select a "+ 3rd Party Gateway" plan in the calculator to include it.

Which Shopify plan is best for me?

It depends on your sales volume. A lower plan suits newer stores, but as revenue grows the reduced processing rates on higher plans can save more than their extra monthly cost. Compare plans in the calculator at your price point to see which gives the lowest per-order fee.

Does the monthly subscription affect per-order profit?

The subscription is a flat monthly cost, not a per-order fee, so it isn't part of the per-order math here. To factor it in, divide your monthly plan cost by your expected orders and add that amount to the App / Other Fees field for an all-in cost per order.

How is ROI different from profit margin?

Profit margin is net profit divided by selling price — the share of revenue you keep. ROI is net profit divided by your invested cost (product plus shipping) — how hard your money works. Low-cost products can show a strong ROI even with a slim margin, so watch both.
