How to Calculate Amazon FBA Fees
Enter Price & Costs
Type your selling price, your product cost (cost of goods), and any inbound shipping cost to Amazon's warehouse. These three numbers form the base of the profit calculation.
Pick the Category
Select your product category. The correct Amazon referral fee is applied automatically — and the category percentage is shown right next to its name in the dropdown.
Add Your FBA Fee
Open Fee Settings and enter your FBA fulfillment fee in the FBA / Closing Fee field. Look it up from Amazon's fee schedule using your item's size tier and weight, then drop the dollar amount in.

Net profit, margin, and ROI update live. The revenue bar and fee breakdown show how each dollar splits between cost, fees, shipping, and profit.
How Amazon's Fees Work
Referral Fees by Category
Amazon charges a referral fee on every sale — a percentage of the selling price that varies by category. The calculator pre-configures all 33 categories with tiered rates ranging from 5% to 20%. Here are some of the most common:
| Category | Referral Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Electronics | 8% | Also computers, cameras, cell phones |
| Home & Kitchen | 15% | One of the largest categories |
| Clothing (>$20) | 17% | Tiered: 5% (≤$15), 10% ($15–$20) |
| Jewelry (≤$250) | 20% | Highest standard rate |
| Automotive | 12% | Also industrial & scientific |
| Books, Music & DVD | 15% +$1.80 | Media items add a closing fee |
FBA Fulfillment Fees
If you use Fulfillment by Amazon, Amazon picks, packs, and ships your orders for a per-unit fulfillment fee based on the item's size tier and weight. Smaller, lighter items cost the least; oversize and heavy items cost much more. Enter this number in the FBA / Closing Fee field.
Size Tiers Drive Cost
Items fall into tiers such as small standard, large standard, and oversize. Fulfillment fees climb as dimensions and shipping weight increase.
Storage Is Separate
Monthly inventory storage is billed apart from fulfillment, with higher rates in Q4 and long-term fees for slow-moving stock past 271 days.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Amazon referral fee?
The referral fee is a commission Amazon charges on each item sold, calculated as a percentage of the selling price. It varies by category — most categories are 15%, electronics is 8%, and jewelry can reach 20%. The calculator applies the correct rate the moment you pick a category, and you can override it in Fee Settings.
How are FBA fulfillment fees determined?
Amazon bases FBA fulfillment fees on your product's size tier (small standard, large standard, oversize, etc.) and shipping weight. Heavier and larger items cost more to fulfill. Look up your item's fee in Amazon's fee schedule and enter it in the FBA / Closing Fee field so it's included in your net profit.
Does the calculator include storage fees?
Storage is billed separately by Amazon, not per sale, so it isn't a default field. To factor it in, divide your expected monthly storage cost by the units you plan to sell and add that per-unit amount to the FBA / Closing Fee field. Remember Amazon raises storage rates in Q4 and charges long-term fees for inventory held beyond 271 days.
What is the $1.80 closing fee?
Amazon applies a fixed $1.80 closing fee per unit on media items — Books, Music & DVD, and Video Games — on top of the referral fee. The calculator adds it automatically when you select one of these categories, and it appears as a separate line in the fee breakdown.
How is ROI different from profit margin?
Profit margin is net profit divided by selling price — the share of revenue you keep. ROI is net profit divided by your invested cost (product plus shipping) — how hard your money works. A product can have a modest margin but a strong ROI if the cost of goods is low, which is why both numbers matter.
Can I edit the pre-filled fee rates?
Yes. Every rate in Fee Settings is editable — the referral percentage, payment processing, listing fee, and FBA / Closing Fee. Amazon updates its fee schedule periodically, so adjust the numbers to match the current rates or any category-specific promotion you qualify for.
