Calculate eBay final value fees, per-order fees, and net profit for your eBay listings across 18 categories.

eBay Fee Calculator

The eBay Fee Calculator shows your true profit on an eBay sale after every selling cost is taken out — the final value fee, the per-order fee, and any extras. Enter your price, cost, and shipping, choose a category, and instantly see net profit, margin, ROI, and a clear fee breakdown so you can price every listing to protect your margins.

The tool comes with 18 eBay categories, each loaded with its correct final value fee. Defaults include the $0.40 per-order fee and a $0.35 listing fee — and every value is editable in Fee Settings.

How to Calculate eBay Fees

1

Enter Price & Costs

Type your selling price, your cost of goods, and the shipping you charge the buyer. eBay's final value fee applies to the price plus shipping, so include both for an accurate result.

2

Pick the Category

Select your category. The correct final value fee is applied automatically and shown beside the category name — from 6.7% for guitars to 15.3% for books and media.

3

Review Fee Settings

Open Fee Settings to confirm the $0.40 per-order fee and $0.35 listing fee. Adjust any value, or add a regulatory operating fee in the Regulatory Fee field if it applies to you.

4

Read the Results

Net profit, margin, and ROI update live. The revenue bar and fee breakdown reveal how each dollar splits between cost, fees, shipping, and profit.

Shipping is part of the fee. eBay charges its final value fee on the total amount including shipping — so "free shipping" built into the price does not lower your fee.

How eBay's Fees Work

Final Value Fee by Category

eBay's main selling cost is the final value fee — a percentage of the total sale (item price plus shipping). Most categories sit at 13.6%, but some specialty categories are higher or much lower. The calculator pre-loads all 18:

CategoryFinal Value FeeNotes
Most Categories13.6%The standard rate
Books & Media15.3%Higher than standard
Jewelry & Watches15%Also women's bags & handbags
Collectibles & Trading Cards13.25%Slightly below standard
Guitars & Basses6.7%One of eBay's lowest rates

The Fixed Fees

Per-Order Fee

eBay adds a fixed $0.40 fee to every order on top of the percentage-based final value fee. It's pre-filled and included in your totals automatically.

Listing & Regulatory Fees

A $0.35 insertion fee applies once you exceed your free monthly listings. Use the Regulatory Fee field to add region-specific operating fees where they apply.

Selling price minus cost, shipping, and every eBay fee — your real take-home per sale.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is eBay's final value fee?

The final value fee is eBay's main selling fee, charged as a percentage of the total sale amount (item price plus shipping). Most categories are around 13.6%, with a fixed $0.40 per-order fee added to every transaction. The calculator applies the correct category rate and you can override it in Fee Settings.

Are shipping costs included in the fee?

Yes. eBay calculates the final value fee on the entire sale, including any shipping you charge the buyer. That's why offering "free shipping" by folding the cost into your item price does not reduce your fee — the fee is simply applied to a higher item price instead.

Why do some categories cost so much less?

eBay sets lower rates in select categories to stay competitive. Guitars & Basses, for example, carry just a 6.7% final value fee, while books and media run higher at 15.3%. Picking the right category in the calculator ensures your profit estimate reflects the rate you'll actually pay.

What is the per-order fee?

In addition to the percentage-based final value fee, eBay charges a fixed $0.40 per order. The calculator pre-fills this in Fee Settings and includes it in your total fees and net profit, so it never gets overlooked.

Does the listing fee always apply?

Not always. eBay gives most sellers a generous number of free listings each month; the $0.35 insertion fee only kicks in once you exceed that allowance. If your listing was free, set the listing fee to $0 in Fee Settings for a precise calculation.

How is ROI different from profit margin?

Profit margin is net profit divided by selling price — the share of revenue you keep. ROI is net profit divided by your invested cost (product plus shipping) — how hard your money works. Low-cost flips can show a strong ROI even with a modest margin, so watch both numbers.
