Frequently Asked Questions
Is the coin flip truly random?
Yes. We use the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues) which provides cryptographically secure random numbers. This is the same technology used for security applications and ensures fair, unpredictable results.
Can I set custom probabilities?
Yes. In Custom mode, use the ratio slider to adjust the probability from 1% to 99% for Option 1. The remaining percentage automatically goes to Option 2.
Example use cases:
- 70% chance for "Go to gym" vs 30% for "Rest day"
- 80% chance for "Work on project" vs 20% for "Take break"
- Custom weighted decisions for any scenario
How many coins can I flip at once?
You can flip 1 to 6 coins simultaneously. Each coin flips independently with its own random result. The interface automatically adjusts coin sizes to fit the screen.
Perfect for:
- Group decisions with multiple participants
- Games requiring multiple coin tosses
- Statistical experiments and probability demonstrations
- Best-of-three or best-of-five scenarios
Is my flip history saved?
Yes. Your flip history and preferences are saved in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device and persists across browser sessions. Click the trash icon to clear history.
Does this work offline?
Yes. Once the page loads, all functionality works without an internet connection. No data is sent to any server.
Offline capabilities:
- Full coin flipping functionality
- All customization options available
- History tracking continues to work
- Sound effects play normally
Why is there no 50-50 option in Custom mode?
The ratio slider ranges from 1% to 99%. For a fair 50-50 flip, simply use the default Coin or Yes/No mode which always provides equal probability.
Custom mode is specifically designed for weighted decisions where you want unequal chances between options.
What happens when multiple coins tie?
When flipping multiple coins and the result is a tie (equal heads and tails), the result displays "Tie!" and each coin shows its individual outcome.
Example: Flipping 4 coins resulting in 2 Heads and 2 Tails will show "Tie!" with all individual coin results visible.
Can I use keyboard to flip?
Yes. Press the Space key to flip when no text input is focused. This provides a quick way to flip without using the mouse.
