Test your webcam with a live preview, capture photos, and check microphone levels. View camera resolution, FPS, aspect ratio, and lighting.

Run a Webcam Test Right in Your Browser

This webcam test gives you an instant live preview of your camera so you can confirm it works before a video call, stream, or recording. Click Enable Camera, allow access, and your feed appears with real-time FPS and resolution badges — no app to install.

Beyond the preview, you can switch between connected cameras, pick a test resolution from 480p up to 4K, capture test photos, check your lighting, and watch a live microphone level meter — everything you need to know your camera and mic are ready.

Private by design: your camera and microphone are read only inside your browser. The live feed and any captured photos stay on your device and are never uploaded to a server.

How to Test Your Webcam

1

Enable camera access

Click Enable Camera and choose Allow when your browser asks for permission. If you accidentally deny it, re-enable the camera from the site permissions in your browser's address bar.

2

Check the live preview

Your camera feed appears immediately. The overlay badges show the live FPS (frames per second) and the actual resolution and aspect ratio your camera is sending.

3

Pick a camera and resolution

Use the Camera dropdown to switch between connected devices, and the Resolution dropdown to test 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, or 4K. The tool falls back to the highest mode your camera supports.

4

Set Mirror and Flip

Use Mirror to flip the image horizontally (on by default, like most video calls) and Flip to invert it vertically. Toggle them until your video looks correctly oriented.

5

Capture a test photo

Click the capture button or press Space to take a snapshot. Captured shots appear in the gallery, where you can view them full size, download them as PNG, or delete them.

6

Test your microphone

Pick a device from the Microphone dropdown (allow access on first use). Speak and watch the audio level meter respond, with a decibel reading to confirm your mic is picking up sound.

Features

Live Video Preview

See your webcam feed in real time the moment access is granted, with a smooth, full-size preview.

Multiple Camera Support

Switch between any connected cameras — built-in, USB, or virtual — straight from the camera dropdown.

Resolution Selection

Test 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, or 4K, with an automatic fallback to your camera's highest supported mode.

Real-Time Statistics

Overlay badges show live FPS, the actual output resolution, and the detected aspect ratio (16:9, 4:3, 21:9).

Mirror and Flip Controls

Flip the image horizontally (mirror, on by default) or vertically, and combine both to fix any orientation.

Photo Capture

Snap a frame with a button or the spacebar; photos keep your mirror/flip settings and save as PNG.

Capture Gallery

Every snapshot lands in a gallery where you can preview it full size, download it, delete it, or clear them all.

Lighting Assessment

A built-in indicator reads your feed's brightness and flags it as Low, Good, or Bright to help you fix lighting.

Audio Level Meter

A live meter with a peak indicator and a decibel reading (-60 to 0 dB) shows exactly what your microphone hears.

Private Processing

All video and audio are handled locally in your browser, with nothing sent to or stored on any server.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I test my webcam?

Click Enable Camera and allow access when prompted. Your live feed appears instantly with FPS and resolution badges. From there you can switch cameras, change resolution, capture a photo, and check your microphone — all without installing anything.

Why is my webcam not showing up?

First make sure the camera is connected and that you granted permission when your browser asked. If you denied it, re-enable camera access from the site permissions in the address bar. Also close any other app (such as a video-call program) that may already be using the camera.

The webcam works but shows no image — what should I do?

If the preview is black, check that your camera's privacy shutter or cover is open and that nothing is physically blocking the lens. Try selecting a different device in the Camera dropdown, and close other programs that might be holding the camera. A lower resolution can also help if the chosen mode is unsupported.

Does this tool record or store my video?

No. All video and audio are processed entirely in your browser and nothing is transmitted to any server. Photos you capture are held only in the current browser session and disappear when you delete them, click Clear All, or close the page.

How do I check my webcam resolution and FPS?

The overlay badges on the preview show the live FPS and the actual output resolution and aspect ratio your camera is delivering. Pick a target from the Resolution dropdown; if your camera can't reach it, the badge reflects the highest resolution it actually supports.

How do I test my webcam and microphone together?

While the camera preview is running, choose your device from the Microphone dropdown and allow access on first use. Speak and the audio level meter responds with a decibel reading, so you can confirm both your camera and mic are working at the same time.

Can I test a virtual camera or use this on mobile?

Yes. Virtual cameras (such as OBS Virtual Camera) appear in the Camera dropdown alongside physical devices — just select one to test its output. The tool also runs on phones and tablets, where it accesses your device's front or rear camera in a responsive layout.

Why is my FPS low or the image mirrored?

Low FPS usually comes from heavy CPU load, USB bandwidth limits, or camera hardware — try closing other apps, switching USB ports, or selecting a lower resolution. If the image looks reversed, the Mirror button is on by default; toggle Mirror and Flip until the orientation looks right.
