If you learned to drive in a country that posts limits in kilometers per hour, mph figures arrive with no instinct attached. Questions About mph Figures From Metric Drivers

Why is a 0–60 mph time not the same as 0–100 km/h?

Sixty mph is 96.56 km/h, so the American benchmark stops 3.4 km/h earlier. On a quick car that gap is worth roughly a tenth to two tenths of a second, which is why the same model can look marginally faster in a US review.

Does 100 km/h break a 65 mph limit?

No. 100 km/h is 62.14 mph, roughly 3 mph inside a 65 mph interstate limit. The reverse trips people up more often: a 70 mph British motorway limit is 112.7 km/h, so holding a habitual 120 km/h there is already speeding.

What is the famous 155 mph limiter in km/h?

250 km/h, which converts to 155.34 mph. The number originates in a voluntary agreement among German manufacturers to cap top speed electronically; the marketing-friendly 155 mph is simply that cap rounded down.

Are British and American miles per hour the same size?

Yes. Both use the international mile of 1,609.344 metres, so 70 mph means 112.65 km/h in either country. The old US survey mile differed by about 3 millimetres per mile and was retired for everyday use in 2022.

Why do European road tests keep quoting 62 mph?
