What This Tool Does
This land area calculator measures any plot, field or lot in two ways: draw the boundary on a high-resolution satellite map, or walk it with your phone's GPS. As you place corners you see the area, the perimeter and the length of every side update live — no side lengths or formulas to enter.

How to Measure Land Area on a Satellite Map
Find your land
Search for a place name, paste lat, lng coordinates, or tap the locate button to jump to where you are standing. Zoom in until you can see the boundary clearly.
Outline the boundary
Tap each corner of the plot on the map — or pan the map under the crosshair and press Add point for pixel-precise placement on a phone. A dashed guide line shows where the next side will go.
Adjust until it fits
Drag any corner to refine it, tap a corner to remove it, and use undo/redo freely. Each side shows its own distance label, so you can match known boundary lengths as you go.

Walk the boundary with GPS
On a phone, press GPS measure and walk the edge of the land. Two capture styles are available:
- Mark corners — stand on each corner and tap Mark this corner; the tool averages about 3 seconds of GPS fixes per corner, which is noticeably more accurate than a single reading.
- Auto trace — points are recorded automatically as you walk, with jitter filtering that ignores weak fixes (worse than ±15 m) and near-duplicate positions.

How Accurate Is Map and GPS Land Measurement?
The math itself is not the weak point: this tool uses a geodesic (spherical-excess) area calculation that accounts for the Earth's curvature, the same approach used by professional mapping libraries. Real-world error comes from three places:

Because point errors partly cancel around a closed loop, a walked boundary of a field-sized parcel typically lands within about 1–3% of the true area.
