How to Use Chart Maker
Creating a chart takes just a few steps. Choose a chart type, enter your data, customize the appearance, and export the result.
Choose a Chart Type
From the main page, click on any chart type card to open it. You can also switch between chart types using the navigation chips at the top of any sub-app page.
Enter Your Data
The data table on the left side lets you enter your values:
- Labels - The first column contains category names (e.g., months, products, regions)
- Values - Each additional column represents a dataset with numeric values
- Add rows - Click the Row button to add more data points
- Add datasets - Click the Dataset button to add another data series (for multi-dataset charts)
- Delete - Click the trash icon to remove a row, or the X button to remove a dataset
Customize Your Chart
Click Chart Options to expand the customization panel:
- Title - Add a title that appears above your chart
- Color Palette - Choose from 6 pre-designed color schemes
- Legend Position - Place the legend at the top, bottom, left, right, or hide it
- Type-specific options - Each chart type has its own settings (e.g., tension for line charts, cutout for doughnut charts)
You can also click on any color picker in the table header to set a custom color for individual datasets.
Export Your Chart
When your chart looks the way you want, click the PNG button to download it as a high-resolution image. The exported image has a white background and 2x resolution for sharp display on any screen.
Importing Data from Excel
Instead of typing values manually, you can import data from spreadsheets:
Copy Data
In Excel or Google Sheets, select and copy your data cells
Click Import
Click the Import button in Chart Maker
Paste Data
Paste your data into the textarea (supports TSV and CSV formats)
Apply
Click Apply to load the data into the table
Features and Capabilities
Chart Maker provides a complete set of tools for creating professional-looking charts with real-time preview and extensive customization options.
Live Preview
Every change you make is instantly reflected in the chart preview. Edit a value in the table, adjust a slider, or pick a new color, and see the chart update immediately without needing to click a refresh button.
Editable Data Table
The built-in data table makes it easy to manage your chart data:
Inline Editing
Click any cell and type to change values instantly
Multiple Datasets
Add up to 10 data series for multi-dataset charts
Custom Colors
Color picker on each dataset header for precise color control
Dataset Naming
Rename datasets directly in the table header
Flexible Rows
Add or remove data rows as needed
Data Import
Quickly bring in data from external sources:
- Excel/Google Sheets - Copy cells and paste directly into the import dialog
- TSV format - Tab-separated values (default when copying from spreadsheets)
- CSV format - Comma-separated values for data from other sources
- Auto-detection - The tool automatically detects whether your data uses tabs or commas

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I import data from Excel?
Select the cells in your Excel or Google Sheets spreadsheet, copy them (Ctrl+C), then click the Import button in Chart Maker and paste (Ctrl+V) into the textarea. Click Apply to load the data. The first column is used as labels, and each additional column becomes a dataset.
What data format does the import support?
The import supports two formats:
- Tab-separated (TSV) - This is the default format when you copy from Excel or Google Sheets
- Comma-separated (CSV) - For data exported from other tools or databases
The tool automatically detects which format you're using based on whether tabs or commas are present in the pasted data.
How many datasets can I add?
You can add up to 10 datasets for charts that support multiple series (bar, line, scatter, area, radar). Pie and doughnut charts use a single dataset where each row becomes a separate colored segment.
Can I customize individual colors?
Yes. Each dataset has a color picker in its table header. Click it to choose a specific color for that dataset. You can also switch between 6 pre-designed color palettes in the Chart Options panel.
What is the difference between pie and doughnut charts?
Both show proportions of a whole. The doughnut chart has a hollow center, which some people find easier to read and more modern looking. The doughnut chart also lets you adjust the cutout percentage to control the size of the center hole.
What is an area chart?
An area chart is a line chart with the region below the line filled with color. It is useful for showing volume or cumulative data. When stacked, multiple area datasets stack on top of each other to show how individual parts contribute to the total.
What does "tension" control on line and area charts?
Tension controls how curved the lines are. A value of 0 produces straight lines connecting each data point. Higher values create smoother, more rounded curves. Adjust the slider to find the look that best represents your data.
How is the PNG export quality?
Charts are exported at 2x resolution with a white background, making them sharp and suitable for presentations, reports, and print. The file is automatically named based on your chart type (e.g., "bar-chart.png").
Does Chart Maker save my data?
Does it work on mobile devices?
Yes. The layout adapts to smaller screens. On mobile, the data table and chart preview stack vertically instead of side by side. The navigation chips scroll horizontally, and all controls remain accessible.
