What Is a Tip Calculator?
A tip calculator works out how much to tip and what the total comes to, so you skip the mental math at the table. Enter your bill amount, pick a tip percentage, and the tip, total, and per-person share update instantly as you type.
It is built for the moments tipping actually happens — dining out, paying for delivery or a service, and splitting the check with a group. The bill is divided evenly so everyone at the table knows exactly what they owe, and a built-in currency picker keeps the symbols and formatting right wherever you are.
How to Use the Tip Calculator
Enter the bill amount
Type the total of your bill before the tip into the Bill Amount field. Use the currency picker to match your local symbol and formatting.
Choose a tip percentage
Tap a preset button — 5%, 10%, 15%, 18%, 20%, or 25% — or type any value into the Custom field for a specific rate.
Split the bill (optional)
Use the + and − buttons under Split Bill to set how many people are sharing, and the per-person amount updates in real time.
Read the results
See the Tip Amount, the highlighted Total, and the Per Person share, with a proportion bar showing how much of the total is bill versus tip. Toggle Round Up Total to round the total to a whole number when you want it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much should I tip at a restaurant?
Tipping customs vary by country and service type. In the United States, 15–20% is standard for sit-down dining, 20–25% is common for exceptional service, and 10–15% is typical for takeout or counter service. Use a preset button for these common rates or the Custom field for anything else.
How do I calculate a 20% tip?
Enter your bill amount and tap the 20% preset. The calculator multiplies the bill by 0.20 to get the tip and adds it to the total instantly. By hand, you can move the decimal one place to get 10%, then double it for 20%.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Many people tip on the pre-tax subtotal, though tipping on the post-tax total is also common and slightly more generous. This calculator applies your chosen percentage to whatever bill amount you enter, so type the subtotal to tip pre-tax or the after-tax figure to tip on the total.
How does splitting the bill work?
The split feature divides the total (bill plus tip) evenly among the number of people you set, so everyone pays the same Per Person amount. Use the + and − buttons to choose anywhere from 1 to 99 people.
What does "Round Up Total" do?
When enabled, the total is rounded up to the nearest whole number — for example, a total of 47.35 becomes 48.00. The difference is added to the tip, which keeps payments simple and bumps the gratuity slightly.
Can I enter a tip percentage that isn't a preset?
Yes. Type any value into the Custom field to set a specific tip percentage. The preset buttons deselect automatically when you use a custom rate.
Is my data private?
Yes. All calculations run entirely in your browser. No bill amounts, tip percentages, split counts, or any other input is sent to a server.
