Rain on Window Simulator
Rain on window turns your screen into a calm, rainy view: water droplets slide down the glass, gentle rain plays in the background, and lightning flashes with delayed thunder rolling in the distance. Everything is drawn live in your browser, with no app to install.
It is made for the moments you want a cozy rainy atmosphere indoors — to focus on work, study, wind down, or drift off to sleep. Pick a scene, set the intensity, and let the rain run quietly in the background or fill the screen in fullscreen.
How to Use
The rain starts on its own when the page opens. Move your mouse or tap the screen to reveal the controls, which hide again after a few seconds for an uninterrupted view.
Choose a scene
Pick one of the four backdrops at the top — Dark, City Night, Forest, or Street Lamp — or upload your own photo to set the mood behind the rain.
Set the intensity
Drag the Intensity slider through Light, Moderate, Heavy, and Storm. The number of droplets, their speed, the splashes, and the rain sound all shift to match.
Adjust the sound
Use the volume slider to set the rain level, or click the speaker icon to mute and unmute. Toggle Thunder for lightning flashes and Fog for a misty layer on the glass.
Set a timer (optional)
Open the Timer and pick 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes. When the time is up the audio gently fades out and the rain stops — ideal for sleeping or a focus session.
Features
Realistic Falling Rain
Drops fall with a parallax depth effect — distant ones look smaller and slower, near ones larger and faster — each angled by a slight wind.
Droplets on the Glass
Water droplets sit on the window, gather rain, then slide down with a gentle wobble, merging with neighbors and leaving thin trails behind.
Splash Particles
When falling drops hit the bottom they burst into tiny splash particles, with heavier rain producing more frequent splashes.
Four Intensity Levels
Move from a Light drizzle through Moderate and Heavy up to a full Storm, changing both the visuals and the sound at once.
Procedural Rain Audio
Rain sound is generated live with the Web Audio API — no pre-recorded loops — and adapts smoothly to your chosen intensity.
Thunder & Lightning
Optional lightning flashes light up the scene, with thunder rumbling after a natural delay to suggest the distance of the storm.
Fog Overlay
Toggle a soft fog layer over the glass for an extra touch of atmosphere on the rainy window.
Scenes & Custom Backgrounds
Choose Dark, City Night, Forest, or Street Lamp, or upload your own photo to sit behind the rain with a soft blur.
Sleep & Focus Timer
Set a 30, 60, 90, or 120 minute timer and the audio fades out and the rain stops on its own when time is up.
Immersive & Saved
Controls auto-hide for a clean fullscreen view, and your scene, intensity, volume, and toggles are remembered in your browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the rain on window effect free to use?
Yes. It runs straight in your browser with nothing to download, install, or sign up for — just open the page and the rain starts.
Why is there no sound when I open it?
Browsers require a tap or click before they play audio. Click anywhere on the screen or use any control once, and the rain sound starts.
Can I use it as rain sounds for sleeping?
Yes. Set the intensity to Light or Moderate and open the Timer for 30 to 120 minutes. The audio fades out and the rain stops when the timer ends, so it does not run forever.
Can I run it fullscreen, like a screensaver?
Yes. The scene fills the screen and the controls hide automatically after a few seconds, leaving an uninterrupted rainy window view you can leave running in the background.
Will my uploaded background be sent to a server?
No. Your photo is read entirely in your browser and stored locally on your device. It is never uploaded anywhere. Use the remove option to clear it and return to the default scene.
Why does the rain look different at each intensity?
Each level changes the number of drops, their speed, how many splashes appear, and how thick the glass droplets are. The audio adjusts too, so heavier rain sounds louder and deeper.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The view is fully responsive — tap the screen to show the controls. For the most immersive feel, use your browser's fullscreen mode.
