What is Fake Download Progress?
Fake Download Progress is a prank tool that displays a convincing file download simulation. The progress bar looks completely real — complete with file name, download speed, file size, and estimated time — but the download never actually finishes.
How It Works
The app simulates every detail of a real download manager with impressive accuracy:
Realistic Progress
The bar fills up smoothly with natural speed fluctuations that mimic real download behavior.
Never Completes
When enabled, the download dramatically slows down near 99% and never reaches 100% — pure frustration!
Random Errors
Surprise error popups appear with realistic messages like "Disk Full" or "Network Error".
Multiple Files
Queue up several fake downloads simultaneously for a more convincing download manager look.
How to Use
Choose a File
Pick one of the preset filenames — like GTA_VI_Full_Crack.zip or totally_not_a_virus.exe — or type any custom filename you want in the input box.
Configure Settings
- Speed — Choose between Dial-up (56 Kbps), Normal (10 Mbps), or Fast (100 Mbps)
- Never Complete — Toggle this on to make the download stall near 99%
- Random Errors — Enable to trigger surprise error popups during the download
Start the Download
Click Start Download and a realistic download window will appear. The progress bar will begin filling up with fluctuating speeds and a live ETA countdown.
Add More Files (Optional)
Click the + button in the download window to add more files to the queue. Each file downloads independently with its own progress bar.

Features
Preset Filenames
Choose from 8 hilarious preset files with realistic file sizes, including fake games, system files, movies, and suspicious executables. Each preset automatically sets the correct file size for a more convincing simulation.
Speed Simulation
Three speed modes recreate different internet connections with authentic behavior:
56 Kbps
- Painfully slow at ~7 KB/s
- Perfect for maximum frustration
- Nostalgic 90s internet experience
10 Mbps
- Typical broadband speed
- ~1.25 MB/s transfer rate
- Most realistic for modern connections
100 Mbps
- High-speed connection
- ~12.5 MB/s transfer rate
- Quick progress for impatient victims
Never Complete Mode
The signature feature that makes this prank truly frustrating: when the progress reaches 90%, it begins to slow down dramatically. By 99%, the bar barely moves at all — oscillating between 99.0% and 99.9% indefinitely.
The ETA counter shows random increasing values, adding to the frustration. What started as "2 minutes remaining" might suddenly jump to "47 minutes remaining" — classic download manager behavior that everyone recognizes.
Random Error Popups
When enabled, realistic error dialogs appear at random intervals (15-45 seconds) with authentic system messages:
Network Error
Disk Full
Access Denied
Connection Timed Out
File Not Found
Corrupted Data
Multi-File Queue
Add multiple files to the download queue for a more convincing download manager look. Each file runs independently with its own progress, speed, and controls — just like real download software.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this actually download anything?
No. This is purely a visual simulation running in your browser. No files are downloaded, uploaded, or transferred. No network requests are made. Everything you see is animated HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — completely harmless and contained within the webpage.
Will this harm my computer?
Absolutely not. The app only displays animated progress bars using JavaScript. It does not interact with your file system, network, or any system resources. It's as safe as viewing any other webpage — there's no malware, no data collection, and no system modifications.
Can I use my own filename?
Yes. You can type any filename you want in the input box. If the name does not match a preset, a random file size between 100 MB and 10 GB will be assigned automatically to maintain realism.
Why does the progress get stuck at 99%?
That is the "Never Complete" feature. When enabled, the download uses an easing function that dramatically slows progress as it approaches 100%, making it appear stuck forever — the classic internet frustration that everyone has experienced at least once. The mathematical curve ensures the progress asymptotically approaches 100% but never quite reaches it.
Can I use this on someone else's screen?
Yes. Open the app, configure your settings, start the download, and then go fullscreen (press F11) for the most convincing effect. Just make sure it is all in good fun and the person has a sense of humor about pranks.
