It also supports 2D formats like QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF 417, and Aztec.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The Barcode Reader works entirely in your web browser. There is nothing to download or install. Simply open the tool and start scanning.
Is my data safe?
Yes. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your images and camera feed are never uploaded to any server. Scan history is stored only in your browser's local storage on your device.
- No server uploads
- No data collection
- No tracking or analytics
- Complete privacy protection
Can I scan barcodes with my phone camera?
Yes. Click the Use Camera button to activate your device's camera. The tool uses your rear-facing camera by default and provides a guide line to help you position the barcode.
Why is my barcode not being detected?
Barcode detection depends on image quality. For best results, ensure the barcode is clearly visible, well-lit, and not blurry.
- Upload a higher resolution image
- Hold the camera closer to the barcode
- Ensure good lighting conditions
- Avoid blurry or out-of-focus images
- Make sure the barcode is not damaged or obscured
Note: Damaged or partially obscured barcodes may not be readable.
What does "Search Product" do?
When you scan a product barcode (EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, or UPC-E), a Search Product button appears.
Clicking it opens a Google search with the barcode number, helping you find:
- Product information and specifications
- Pricing from multiple retailers
- Customer reviews and ratings
- Product availability
Is scan history saved across sessions?
Yes. Your scan history is saved in your browser's local storage and will persist even if you close the browser. You can clear all history at any time using the Clear All button in the history panel.
Can I scan multiple barcodes from one image?
Currently, the tool detects one barcode per image. If your image contains multiple barcodes, it will decode the most prominent one.
For multiple barcodes:
- Scan each one separately by cropping the image
- Use the camera to scan them one at a time
- Enable continuous scanning mode to scan multiple barcodes quickly
